The balanced and truly middle-course position regarding Fiqh al-Wāqiʿ:
The matter, then, is exactly as Allah, Exalted, has said: “And thus We have made you a middle community” (Qur’an 2:143). In its sound, sharʿī sense, Fiqh al-Wāqiʿ is undoubtedly an obligation, yet it is a collective duty; once some scholars discharge it, the obligation is lifted from the rest of the scholars, and all the more so from students of knowledge and from the general body of Muslims.
Accordingly, one must show moderation when calling Muslims to acquaint themselves with Fiqh al-Wāqiʿ, and must not drown them in political news or in the analyses of Western thinkers. What is required—always and forever—is to keep harping on the purification of Islam from the accretions that have attached themselves to it, and then to nurture Muslims, both groups and individuals, upon this purified Islam, linking them to the authentic path of daʿwah: the Book and the Sunnah as understood by the early generations of the ummah.
