Exaggeration concerning Fiqh al-Wāqiʿ (the jurisprudence of current realities)
As for those preachers who nowadays keep harping on Fiqh al-Wāqiʿ, inflating its importance and exalting its rank—something that is, in principle, justified—they nevertheless go to excess. They convey, and perhaps even believe (albeit unwittingly), that every scholar—indeed every student of knowledge—must be fully versed in this discipline.
Yet many of these very preachers know perfectly well that the concepts of the religion our Lord has chosen for the Muslim community have long since been distorted, even in matters of creed. We find great numbers of people who testify to lā ilāha illā Allah (there is no god but Allah), carry out the rest of the pillars, and may even engage in supererogatory acts of worship such as the night vigil, voluntary charity, and the like; still, they have strayed from the likes of His words, Exalted be He: “So know that there is no god but Allah.” ⦗Muḥammad: 1⦘
