Malik ibn Aws ibn al-Hadathan reported:
“I entered upon ʿUmar, and then ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn ʿAwf, Talhah, and Saʿd came in. ʿAli and al-ʿAbbas also arrived, arguing with one another. ʿUmar said to them, ‘I adjure you by the One by whose permission the heavens and the earth stand firm: do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “We Prophets do not leave an estate to be inherited; whatever we leave behind is charity”?’ They answered, ‘By Allah, yes.’”
(The narration continues with a lengthy account.)
