338 – Abu al-Bukhtari reported that al-‘Abbas and ‘Ali once came to ‘Umar while they were disputing; each of them kept saying to the other, “You are such-and-such, you are such-and-such.” ‘Umar then said to Talhah, al-Zubayr, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Awf, and Sa‘d (may Allah be pleased with them): “I adjure you by Allah—did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Every property left by a prophet is ṣadaqah (a charitable endowment) except what he provided for food; we are not inherited from’?” (Sound).
