Mukhtaṣar al-ShamāʾilAl-Tirmidhi

277 – ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
The Messenger of Allah said to me, “Recite the Qurʾān to me.” I replied, “O Messenger of Allah, shall I recite it to you when it was revealed to you?” He said, “I love to hear it from someone other than myself.” I therefore recited Sūrat al-Nisāʾ until I reached the verse, “So how will it be when We bring from every nation a witness and We bring you as a witness over these?” (4:41). At that point I saw the eyes of the Messenger of Allah overflowing with tears.

(Sound) 278 – Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr:
The sun was eclipsed one day during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah stood to pray. He stood so long that he was almost about to bow; then he bowed and remained bowing so long that he was nearly about to raise his head; he then raised his head and stood so long that he was almost about to prostrate; he prostrated and remained in prostration so long that he was nearly about to raise his head; he raised his head again and stood so long that he was nearly about to prostrate; then he prostrated and remained so long that he was almost about to raise his head. All the while he was breathing heavily and weeping, saying: “My Lord, did You not promise me that You would not punish them while I am among them? My Lord, did You not promise me that You would not punish them while they seek Your forgiveness? We indeed seek Your forgiveness.” When he had completed two units of prayer, the eclipse cleared. He then stood, praised and extolled Allah Most High, and said, “The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah; they do not eclipse because of the death or life of anyone. Whenever you see them eclipsed, hasten to the remembrance of Allah Most High.”

(Sound) 279 – On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās:
The Messenger of Allah took one of his daughters who was dying, embraced her, and placed her before him. She passed away while she was in front of him. Umm Ayman cried out, so the Prophet said, “Are you weeping in the presence of the Messenger of Allah?” She replied, “Do I not see you weeping?” He said, “I am not weeping; it is simply mercy. The believer is in goodness under every circumstance: even as his soul is drawn out from between his sides, he is praising Allah.” [171]
