I was riding pillion behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I recited to him one hundred lines, all sharing the same rhyme, from the poetry of Umayya ibn Abi al-Salt al-Thaqafi. Each time I finished a line, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say, “More!”—and I went on until I had completed a full hundred, that is, one hundred verses. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remarked, “He was very nearly on the verge of embracing Islam.”
