ahead of him, chanting:

“Clear the way, you unbelievers, from His path!
Today we shall strike you for the sake of His revelation,
A blow that will sever heads from their shoulders
And make a close friend forget his friend.”

ʿUmar said to him, “O Ibn Rawāḥah, do you recite poetry in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and within Allah’s Sacred Precinct?”

The Prophet ﷺ replied, “Leave him, ʿUmar—for these words cut through them faster than a shower of arrows.”
