a child a small bird to play with. The Prophet ﷺ only said to him, “O Abu ʿUmayr, what happened to the nughayr?” because the boy had a nughayr (a little bird) that he used to play with; when it died he became sad, so the Prophet ﷺ light-heartedly consoled him, saying, “O Abu ʿUmayr, what happened to the nughayr?”
