Jarir ibn ‘Abd Allah reported: “I was brought before ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab—may Allah be pleased with him—so Jarir cast off his cloak (rida’) and walked wearing only an izar (waist-wrapper). ‘Umar said to him, ‘Put your cloak back on.’ Then ‘Umar said to the people, ‘I have never seen a man of fairer appearance than Jarir—except for what has reached us about the beauty of Joseph the Truthful, peace be upon him.’”
