Mukhtaṣar al-ShamāʾilAl-Tirmidhi

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, restrained his tongue and spoke only about what mattered. He drew people together and never repelled them. He honored the nobleman of every clan and placed him in charge of his own people. He warned others and took precautions against harm, yet he never withheld his warm countenance or courteous nature from anyone.

He would check on his Companions, inquire of the people about their affairs, applaud whatever was good and reinforce it, and censure whatever was blameworthy and work to diminish it.

His conduct was even-handed and consistent. He was never negligent, fearing that they might become negligent or deviate. For every situation he had the proper course, never falling short of the truth nor going beyond it.

Those who were nearest to him were the best of the community. The most honored in his sight were those who offered the widest counsel, and the highest in rank with him were those who excelled in sympathy and support.

He (al-Ḥusayn) said, “I then asked my father about the Prophet’s gatherings.” He replied:

“The Messenger of Allah would neither stand up nor sit down without remembering Allah. When he reached a group, he sat wherever the gathering ended, and he ordered others to do the same.

He gave each of those present his share of attention, so that no one sitting with him felt that anyone else was more favored. Whoever sat with him or consulted him about a need found him patient until that person himself rose to leave. Whoever asked him for something was not turned away except with what he sought or with gentle words.

His openness and noble character encompassed all people; to them he was like a father, and before him they were equal in matters of truth.” ⦗23⦘
