“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, never even saw refined white flour until he met his Lord. Someone then asked me, ‘Did you have sieves in the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?’ I replied, ‘We had no sieves.’ They said, ‘So what did you do with the barley?’ I answered, ‘We would blow on it, and whatever husk could fly off would do so; [then we would moisten it] and finally we would knead it.’”
