anyone, until a single prostration becomes better than this world and all it contains.”
Then Abū Hurayrah would say: “Recite, if you wish: ‘There is none of the People of the Book who will not believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them.’ [al-Nisāʾ: 159]”
Recorded by al-Bukhārī (6/382–383), Muslim (93–94), al-Tirmidhī (2234), who graded it sound, al-Tayālisī (2/219/2782), and Ahmad (2/240, 272, and 538). The last three do not include the recitation of the verse. The version without it is also recorded by al-Bukhārī and Muslim, Ibn Mājah (2/516), al-Ājurrī (p. 381), ʿAbd al-Razzāq (20840), al-Dānī (142/1–2), and Ibn Mandah in al-Īmān (41/1).
A third chain from him gives the following wording:
“By Allah, the son of Mary will certainly descend as a just judge. He will break the cross, kill the swine, and abolish the jizyah tax. Young she-camels will be abandoned, with no one taking an interest in them. Rancour, mutual hatred, and envy will disappear. People will be invited to take wealth, but no one will accept it.”
Recorded by Muslim (1/94), Ahmad (2/494), al-Ājurrī (p. 380), and Ibn Mandah (41/2).
A fourth chain—through Muhammad ibn Sīrīn—from him traces the following wording back to the Prophet:
“Soon those of you who live on will meet Jesus son of Mary as a rightly guided leader and a just judge. He will break the cross, kill the swine, and abolish the jizyah, and warfare will come to an end.”
Recorded by Ahmad (2/411).
