And the other is the hadith of Abū Hurayrah, who reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:
“Indeed, Medina is like a furnace: it expels what is impure. The Hour will not come until Medina expels its wicked inhabitants, as a furnace removes the dross from iron.”
Recorded by Muslim (4/120).
27 – There are two hadiths concerning this:
The first is the hadith of Mihjan ibn al-Adra‘, previously cited (p. 89).
The other is the hadith of Jābir ibn ‘Abd Allāh, also previously cited (pp. 89–90).
28 – There are also two hadiths concerning this:
The first is from Umm Sharīk herself, who said that she heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) say:
“People will surely flee from the Dajjāl into the mountains.”
Umm Sharīk asked, “O Messenger of Allah, where will the Arabs be that day?” He replied, “They will be few.”
Recorded by Muslim (8/207), al-Tirmidhī (3926) (1), and Ahmad (6/462).
The other is from ‘Ā’ishah:
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) mentioned severe hardship that would precede the Dajjāl’s appearance. I asked, “O Messenger of Allah, where will the Arabs be that day?” He replied:
(1) I say: Mr. al-Da‘‘ās overlooked the fact that it is in Muslim, and thus wrote in his notes on al-Tirmidhī: “Al-Tirmidhī alone reported it.”
