to fight to the death—a pledge Allah knows to be sincere in their hearts. Then darkness will envelop them, so that no man can see his own hand.” He continued:
“The son of Mary will then descend, and the darkness will be lifted from their sight. In their midst will be a man clad in his armour. They will ask, ‘Who are you, O servant of Allah?’ He will reply, ‘I am Allah’s servant and Messenger, a spirit from Him and His word—Jesus son of Mary. Choose one of three things: that Allah send a punishment from heaven upon the Dajjāl and his troops, that He cause the earth to swallow them up, or that He give your weapons power over them while keeping their weapons from harming you.’ They will say, ‘This, O Messenger of Allah, would bring greater relief to our hearts and souls.’ On that day, you will see the huge, tall Jew, a great eater and drinker, trembling so much that his hand cannot lift his sword. The Muslims will advance against them and be given the upper hand. The Dajjāl will melt when he sees the son of Mary, as lead melts, until Jesus comes to him—or catches up with him—and kills him.”
Recorded by ‘Abd al-Razzāq (20834), through ‘Amr ibn Abī Sufyān al-Thaqafī, from him.
I say: Its chain consists of trustworthy narrators relied upon by al-Bukhārī and Muslim, except for the man of the Ansār, who is unnamed. He may have been a Companion, since this al-Thaqafī was a Successor who narrated from Abū Mūsā al-Ash‘arī and others. If that is the case, the chain is authentic, for a Companion’s unknown identity does not undermine its authenticity according to Ahl al-Sunnah.
26 – Two hadiths corroborate this:
The first is the previously cited hadith of Jābir (pp. 89–90), which states:
“That will be the day of deliverance, the day when Medina expels its impurities as a furnace removes the dross from iron.”
