I say: This version is more accurate (1). This ʿIyād is an unknown narrator, but his transmission of the latter part of the report is corroborated. Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd narrated from his father, from his grandfather, from Abū Bakrah—may Allah be pleased with him—that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“The terror of the False Messiah will not enter Medina. On that day it will have seven gates, with two angels at each gate.”
Recorded by al-Bukhārī (4/76) and Ahmad (5/43 and 47). Al-Hākim (4/542) mistakenly presented it as a supplementary report. It also has a corroborating report from Abū Hurayrah, recorded by al-Bukhārī as well, no. (5731), through Mālik. This report is also in al-Muwattaʾ (3/88).
The sixth is a man from among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. His hadith was cited earlier (p. 71).
The seventh is Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh. His hadith was also cited earlier (pp. 71–73), and it will appear shortly through another chain of transmission.
The eighth is Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, whose hadith was cited earlier (pp. 77–78).
The ninth is ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, whose hadith was also cited earlier (p. 81).
The tenth is a report from Anas similar to Abū Hurayrah’s hadith recorded by al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
Recorded by al-Bukhārī (7134), al-Tirmidhī (2243), Ibn Hibbān (6766)
(1) I subsequently found that al-Hākim had recorded this hadith (4/541) through ʿAbd al-Razzāq and others, from Maʿmar, with the same chain. He said: “Maʿmar and Shuʿayb ibn Abī Hamzah have left a gap in this chain from al-Zuhrī, for Talhah ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAwf did not hear it from Abū Bakrah; he heard it only from ʿIyād ibn Musāfih, from Abū Bakrah. This is how Yūnus ibn Yazīd and ʿUqayl ibn Khālid narrated it from al-Zuhrī.” He then set out his chain of transmission to them both.
