18 — There are two hadiths concerning this:
The first is from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“The Dajjāl will emerge, and a man from among the believers will set out towards him. Armed guards—the Dajjāl’s guards—will meet him and ask, ‘Where are you going?’ He will reply, ‘I am going to this man who has appeared.’ They will ask, ‘Do you not believe in our lord?’ He will reply, ‘There is no mistaking our Lord.’ They will say, ‘Kill him!’ But some of them will say to the others, ‘Has your lord not forbidden you to kill anyone on your own?’
“They will take him to the Dajjāl. When the believer sees him, he will say, ‘O people! This is the Dajjāl whom the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned.’ At the Dajjāl’s command, the man will be stretched out. The Dajjāl will say, ‘Seize him and stretch him out.’ His back and belly will then be beaten severely. The Dajjāl will ask, ‘Do you not believe in me?’ He will reply, ‘You are the lying Messiah.’
“An order will then be given, and he will be sawn in two, from the crown of his head down between his legs. The Dajjāl will then walk between the two halves and say to him, ‘Rise!’ He will stand upright. The Dajjāl will then ask him, ‘Do you believe in me?’ He will reply, ‘I have only become more certain of who you are.’ Then he will say, ‘O people! He will not do this to anyone after me.’
“The Dajjāl will seize him to slaughter him, but the area between his neck and his collarbone will be turned into copper, so he will find no way to do so. He will then take hold of his hands and feet and hurl him away. People will think that he has hurled him into the fire, but he will in fact have been cast into Paradise.”
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then said:
“This man will be the greatest of all martyrs in the sight of the Lord of the worlds.”
