Second: Jubayr ibn Nufayr narrated from his father a similar report traced back to the Prophet, omitting the passage:
“We said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, how swiftly will he travel across the earth?’ …”
Al-Hākim recorded it (4/ 530 - 531) and said, “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī agreed with him.
I say: In fact, it is authentic according to Muslim’s criteria: all its narrators are trustworthy and are among the narrators in his collection.
Al-Haythamī said (7/ 351):
“Al-Tabarānī recorded it. Its chain includes ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sālih, who has been deemed reliable, although a number of scholars have judged him weak. The remaining narrators are trustworthy.”
He also cited it elsewhere (7/ 347 - 348), up to the words, “And Allah will watch over every Muslim in my stead,” and said:
“Al-Bazzār recorded it. Its chain includes ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sālih, al-Layth’s scribe, who has been deemed reliable, although a number of scholars have judged him weak. The remaining narrators are among the narrators of al-Sahīh.”
I say: Al-Hākim records it through a chain that does not include Ibn Sālih. Thus, the hadith is authentic, and praise be to Allah.
Third: ʿĀʾishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said:
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came in while I was weeping and asked me, “What makes you weep?” I replied, “O Messenger of Allah, I thought of the Dajjāl and wept.” The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“If the Dajjāl emerges while I am alive, I will deal with him on your behalf. But if the Dajjāl emerges after I am gone, then your Lord
