Second: Ibn ʿAbbās reported that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:
“We are the last of the nations and the first to be called to account. It will be said, ‘Where is the unlettered nation?’ Thus we are the last, yet the first.”
Recorded by Ibn Mājah (2/575).
I say: Its chain of transmission is authentic, as al-Būsīrī stated in his Zawāʾid (265/1).
Third: Muʿāwiyah ibn Haydah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) say:
“Indeed, you complete the number of seventy nations. You are the last of them and the most honored in the sight of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.”
Recorded by al-Dārimī (2/313) and Ahmad (5/3 and 5).
I say: Its chain of transmission is sound. It also appears in al-Mishkāh (6294) with similar wording.
4 - I have not found a corroborating report with the same wording as this passage. The closest I have come across is the hadith of Abū Hurayrah, who said: I heard Abū al-Qāsim, the truthful one whose truthfulness is confirmed, say:
“The one-eyed Dajjāl, the messiah of misguidance, will emerge from the direction of the east at a time of disagreement and division among the people. In forty days—Allah knows best how long they will be—he will travel as far across the earth as Allah wills. The believers will suffer severe hardship. Then Jesus son of Mary (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) will descend from heaven and lead the people in prayer (1). When he raises his head from bowing, he will say, ‘Allah hears whoever praises Him.’ Allah will slay the False Messiah, and the Muslims will prevail.”
