the final tashahhud (testimony of faith), let each of you seek refuge in Allah from four things: the punishment of Hell, the punishment of the grave, the trials of life and death, and the evil of the false Messiah, the Dajjāl.” Reported by Muslim (588) from Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).

In view of the importance of this matter, and to clarify that it forms part of the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wa-l-Jamā'ah, our teacher, the eminent hadith scholar Muhammad Nāsir al-Dīn al-Albānī (may Allah have mercy on him), authored this book: “The story of the false Messiah, the Dajjāl, the descent of Jesus (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and his killing of the Dajjāl, following the narrative of Abū Umāmah (may Allah be pleased with him), supplemented by authentic reports from other Companions (may Allah be pleased with them).” It is a valuable work, among the finest treasures of the Sunnah that our teacher left behind.

As he mentioned in his introduction, two considerations helped prompt our teacher al-Albānī to write this book:

First: the doubts held by many associated with religious scholarship concerning belief in the descent of Jesus (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and his killing of the Dajjāl at the end of time.

Second: people in general—except those whom Allah wills—no longer speak of the emergence of the Dajjāl and the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him).

The heirs of the shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him), in cooperation with al-Maktabah al-Islāmiyyah in Amman, decided to publish this book so that Muslims throughout the world might benefit from it and the shaykh might be rewarded for it after his death. They sought the assistance of some students of Islamic knowledge. May Allah reward them all with good.
