—such that he knows whatever Allah knows and can do whatever Allah can do. He further alleged that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him and his household—possessed the same attribute, that it then passed to al-Ḥasan, and from there continued in an unbroken chain until it reached his own shaykh. I made it clear that this is manifest unbelief and reprehensible ignorance, and that to attribute such a claim even to the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—is blasphemy, let alone to anyone else.
Allah the Exalted has said:
“Say: I do not tell you that with me are the treasures of Allah, nor do I know the unseen, nor do I say to you, ‘I am an angel.’” [Al-Anʿām 6:50]
He also said:
“Say: I have no power to bring benefit or harm to myself except as Allah wills; and if I possessed knowledge of the unseen I would have amassed abundant good and no misfortune would have touched me.” [Al-Aʿrāf 7:188]
And He said:
“They said, ‘Had we any say in the matter, we would not have been killed here.’” [Āl ʿImrān 3:154]
In another verse He says:
“They ask, ‘Do we have any say in the matter?’ Say: The entire matter belongs to Allah.” [Āl ʿImrān 3:154]
