So they returned with a blessing and bounty from Allah; no harm whatsoever had touched them. They pursued Allah’s good pleasure, and Allah is the possessor of immense bounty. ⦗Āl ʿImrān 3:174⦘
In Sahih al-Bukhari, Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates that this very statement—“Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Trustee”—was spoken by Abraham, peace be upon him, when he was thrown into the fire, and that Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and his Companions likewise said it when people warned them, “The people have gathered against you.”
Another sound report tells us that, in times of distress, the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—would say: “There is no god but Allah, the Magnificent, the Forbearing; there is no god but Allah, Lord of the Noble Throne; there is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens and the earth and Lord of the Mighty Throne.”
It is further narrated that he taught a similar supplication to some members of his household, and the Sunan collections record that, whenever a matter weighed heavily upon him, the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—would say: “Yā Ḥayy, Yā Qayyūm, by Your mercy I seek relief.”
