of Allah alone, without partner; seeking His help, relying upon Him, and calling on Him to obtain benefit and repel harm—just as the Exalted says:

“The revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise. Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book in truth; so worship Allah, devoting the religion sincerely to Him. Surely, sincere devotion belongs to Allah alone. And those who take protectors besides Him say, ‘We worship them only so that they may bring us nearer to Allah.’ Allah will judge between them concerning that over which they differ.” ⦗az-Zumar 1–3⦘

He, Most High, also says:

“And the mosques belong to Allah, so do not call upon anyone alongside Allah.” ⦗al-Jinn 18⦘

And He says:

“Say, ‘My Lord has commanded justice. Direct your faces at every place of worship and call upon Him, devoting the religion sincerely to Him.’” ⦗al-Aʿrāf 29⦘

And He, the Exalted, says:

“Say, ‘Call upon those you claim besides Him; they possess no power to remove affliction from you or to shift it.’ Those whom they call upon are themselves seeking a means of nearness to their Lord—who of them will be closest—and they hope for His mercy and fear His punishment. Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is ever to be dreaded.” ⦗al-Isrāʾ 56–57⦘
