filth from Satan’s handiwork, so shun it that you may prosper.” Al-Mā’idah 90. Allah Most High thus made clear that intoxicants are Satan’s handiwork, described them as filth, and linked prosperity to avoiding them. Would any rational person who believes the Creator’s declaration—blessed is His name—and knows that He intended good for us by warning us against them consider it permissible to approach them or defile himself with them?
The Prohibition against Usury
Beware of usury, for Allah Most High has forbidden it and threatened to wage war against anyone who does not repent of it. He—Mighty is He—said, “O you who believe, fear Allah and relinquish whatever remains of usury, if you are truly believers. If you do not, then be warned of war from Allah and His Messenger.” Al-Baqarah 278–279. Allah Most High also said, “Allah destroys usury and causes charitable giving to increase.” Al-Baqarah 276.
The Prohibition against Consuming an Orphan’s Property
Neither of you should consume anyone’s property unlawfully, and beware especially of an orphan’s property. Allah—Majestic is His Glory—has said, “Indeed, those who unjustly consume the property of orphans consume nothing but fire into their bellies, and they will burn in a blazing Fire.” Al-Nisā’ 10.
Encouragement to Seek What Is Lawful
Both of you must seek what is lawful and avoid what is forbidden. If lawful options are unavailable to you, then resort to doubtful matters.
The Prohibition against Wrongdoing
Beware of wrongdoing, for wrongdoing will be layers of darkness on the Day of Resurrection, and the wrongdoer is condemned and hated by all creatures.
