and likewise His words:
“Do they seek a religion other than Allah’s, when all those in the heavens and the earth have submitted to Him, willingly or unwillingly, and to Him they will be returned?”
Surah Āl ʿImrān 83
Likewise, His words:
“Say, ‘Shall we invoke besides Allah that which can neither benefit nor harm us, and turn back on our heels after Allah has guided us, like someone whom the devils have lured away, bewildered in the land, while his companions call him to guidance, saying, “Come to us”?’ Say, ‘Indeed, Allah’s guidance is the true guidance, and we have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds, to establish prayer and to fear Him. He is the One to whom you will be gathered.’”
Surah al-Anʿām 71–72
The verb is also used transitively, coupled with doing good, as in the words of Allah Most High:
“They say, ‘None will enter Paradise unless they are Jews or Christians.’ Those are their wishful claims. Say, ‘Produce your proof, if you are truthful.’ Rather, whoever submits himself to Allah and does good will have his reward with his Lord. No fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.”
Surah al-Baqarah 111–112
And His words, Most High:
“Who is better in religion than one who submits himself to Allah and does good, and follows the faith of Abraham, inclining to truth? And Allah took Abraham as an intimate friend.”
