oneself to Allah, Lord of the worlds, as His servant. As Allah Most High says:
“Who would turn away from the religion of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself? We certainly chose him in this world, and in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous. When his Lord said to him, ‘Submit,’ he said, ‘I have submitted to the Lord of the worlds.’ Abraham instructed his sons to follow this faith, as did Jacob: ‘My sons, Allah has chosen this religion for you, so do not die except as Muslims.’”
Surah al-Baqarah 130–132
Allah Most High also says:
“Say, ‘My Lord has guided me to a straight path, an upright religion, the faith of Abraham, who inclined to truth and was not one of the polytheists.’ Say, ‘Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my life and my death are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. He has no partner. This is what I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims.’”
Surah al-Anʿām 161–163
The verb expressing submission is used intransitively, with its complement introduced by the preposition li- (‘to’), as in these verses and in the words of Allah Most High:
“She said, ‘My Lord, I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah, Lord of the worlds.’”
Surah al-Naml 44
Likewise, Allah Most High says:
“Turn in repentance to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped.”
Surah al-Zumar 54
