to set their souls right and keep themselves from sin when circumstances expose them to temptation. They also need to enjoin what is right upon others and forbid them what is wrong, according to their ability.
Both of these duties entail considerable difficulty, though they are easy for those for whom Allah makes them easy.
This is because Allah has commanded the believers to have faith and do righteous deeds, and has commanded them to call people to faith and righteous deeds and to strive against them to that end.
As Allah Most High says:
“Allah will surely help those who help His cause. Indeed, Allah is Powerful, Almighty. Those who, if We establish them in the land, establish prayer, give zakat, enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. And to Allah belongs the outcome of all matters.” (Surah al-Hajj 40–41)
And He says:
“Indeed, We will surely help Our messengers and those who believe, both in the life of this world and on the Day when the witnesses stand forth.” (Surah Ghāfir 51)
And He says:
“Allah has decreed: ‘I and My messengers will surely prevail.’ Indeed, Allah is Powerful, Almighty.” (Surah al-Mujādilah 21)
And He says:
“And indeed, Our soldiers will be victorious.” (Surah al-Sāffāt)
