Thus, whenever Satan’s allies committed this indecency—exposing their private parts during circumambulation—they offered two justifications. They would say:

“We found our forefathers doing this.”

This is an appeal to custom and to following and imitating their forebears. They would also say:

“Allah has commanded us to do this.”
