And it is reported that he said to Umm Salamah: “O Umm Salamah, good character has secured the good of this world and the Hereafter.”
It is well known that the believers are the most beloved of His creatures to Him. Since those whose faith is most complete are those with the best character, those with the best character are the ones He loves most. Character is religion, as Allah Most High says:
“And indeed, you are of a great moral character.”
[Surah al-Qalam 4]
Ibn ʿAbbās explained this as: “You follow a great religion.” Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and others likewise explained it in this way, as we have shown elsewhere.
He, glorified is He, hates indecencies; He neither loves them nor commands them, as He Most High says:
“Indeed, Allah does not command indecency.”
[Surah al-Aʿrāf 28]
