and compares the muezzin, who calls people to prayer and to listening to the Quran, to the flute, which calls those listening to whistling and clapping to move.
Al-Tabarānī narrated in his Muʿjam, from Ibn ʿAbbās, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said that Satan said, “My Lord, give me a Quran.” He replied, “Your Quran is poetry.” Satan said, “Give me a muezzin.” He replied, “Your muezzin is the flute.” Satan said, “Give me a form of writing.” He replied, “Your writing is tattooing.” Satan said, “Give me a house.” He replied, “Your house is the bathhouse.” Satan said, “Give me food.” He replied, “Your food is that over which Allah’s name has not been mentioned.” Whoever draws such an analogy with Allah’s Quran—Allah will recompense him as he deserves.
Allah Most High says:
“But they were succeeded by generations who neglected prayer and followed their desires; they will meet perdition.”
[Surah Maryam 59]
These people occupy themselves with their desires to the neglect of prayer.
Thus, some of these shaykhs deliberately seek out gatherings in bathhouses, where they experience spiritual states and gain prominence, because they draw their support from devils. For Satan’s influence becomes manifest in his house, among his allies, when his muezzin sounds the call and his Quran is recited, just as it becomes manifest among those who engage in whistling and clapping.
