cursed effeminate men and women who adopt masculine ways. It is also established in the Sahīh that he cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men. It is further established in the Sahīh that he ordered effeminate men to be banished and expelled from homes.
Al-Bukhārī narrated in his Sahīh, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men.”
In another narration: “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed effeminate men and women who adopt masculine ways, and said, ‘Expel them from your homes.’ The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, expelled so-and-so, and ʿUmar expelled so-and-so.”
If a man who imitates women in their clothing, appearance, and adornment is cursed—having been cursed by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him—then what of someone who imitates them by allowing men sexual contact with him for their pleasure, permitting this for some benefit he obtains or because he himself enjoys it? The more closely he resembles women, the greater the curse upon him. He is cursed on two grounds: for the forbidden indecency, for which he would be cursed even if he were the active partner; and for his effeminacy, since he places himself in the same category as women in the receptive role.
