And whoever has a beautiful appearance, yet abstains from what Allah Most High has forbidden, resists his desires, and adorns himself with the garment of righteousness of which Allah says:
“O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as an adornment. But the garment of righteousness—that is best.” [Surah al-Aʿrāf 7:26]
Allah loves this beauty, and in this respect such a person is superior to one who has not been granted such beauty—a beauty with which the face of the disobedient is not clothed. If his natural appearance is beautiful, it becomes more beautiful still; otherwise, it acquires a corresponding measure of light and beauty.
As for the wicked, the darkness of disobedience overspreads their faces until it eclipses their natural beauty. Ibn ʿAbbās, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “A good deed brings light to the heart, radiance to the face, strength to the body, an increase in provision, and love in the hearts of others. An evil deed brings darkness to the heart, a dinginess to the face, weakness to the body, a decrease in provision, and hatred in the hearts of others.”
This will reach its fullness on the Day of Resurrection, becoming apparent to everyone, as Allah Most High says:
“On the Day when some faces will turn white and some faces will turn black. As for those whose faces turn black: ‘Did you disbelieve after having believed? Then taste the punishment for your disbelief.’ But as for those whose faces turn white, they will be within Allah’s mercy, abiding therein forever.” [Surah Āl ʿImrān 3:106–107]
And Allah Most High says:
“On the Day of Resurrection, you will see those who lied about Allah with their faces blackened. Is there not in Hell an abode for the arrogant?” [Surah al-Zumar 39:60]
