The point here, however, is that although these newly introduced sounds associated with jihad may be thought to yield an overriding benefit, it is adherence to what is recognized as good that yields the overriding benefit. The same applies to the sounds used in remembrance of Allah. For the earliest pioneers and those who followed them in righteousness were superior to later generations in every respect: in prayer and related acts of worship, such as remembrance, supplication, reciting and listening to the Quran, and other such acts; and in jihad, governance, and the various related policies, punishments, and transactions concerning the sound management and distribution of wealth. The way of the early generations is more complete in every respect, but a Muslim practices as much of it as he is able.

As Allah Most High says:

“So fear Allah as much as you are able.” [Surah al-Taghābun 16]

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When I command you to do something, do as much of it as you are able.” There is no power nor strength except through Allah.

Abū al-Qāsim al-Qushayrī said: “A beautiful voice is indeed among the blessings Allah Most High has bestowed upon those who possess it. Allah Most High says:

‘He increases in creation whatever He wills.’ [Surah Fātir 1]
