their states of ecstasy and confusion in the language of the disbelieving Tatar Turks. Their devils descend upon them and lead them astray, and they remain hypocrites loyal to those disbelievers, imagining themselves to be friends of Allah, when in fact they are allies of Satan and members of his party.
Thus, these listening sessions produce the same effects as wine: turning people away from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer, and stirring up enmity and hatred, to the point that some kill others during them. Accordingly, they conduct these sessions in a manner that Satan loves and the Most Merciful hates.
This is evident in several respects.
First, prescribed acts of worship, such as prayer, fasting and Hajj, include requirements to refrain from forms of physical intimacy that are permissible at other times, thereby perfecting and completing these acts of worship. Allah Most High says:
“Do not have relations with them while you are in retreat in the mosques.”
[Surah al-Baqarah 187]
He also says:
“So now, have relations with them and seek what Allah has ordained for you, and eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread.”
[Surah al-Baqarah 187]
And He says:
“If you are ill or on a journey, or one of you comes from relieving himself, or you have touched women and find no water, then seek clean earth and perform dry ablution.”
[Surah al-Nisā’ 43]
Hajj is the strictest in this regard: a person in the state of consecration may neither engage in physical intimacy with women nor look at them with desire. Someone observing a retreat in the mosque is subject to nearly the same restrictions, while those upon a fasting person are less stringent. A man at prayer must not stand in the same row as women; rather, women are placed behind the men’s rows and pray behind them, as
