and followed their desires.”
[Surah Maryam 59]
They have also come to share in what the Most High describes:
“Their prayer at the House was nothing but whistling and clapping.”
[Surah al-Anfāl 35]
Here, whistling includes similar forms of singing, while clapping means striking the hands together. If this was the listening practice of the polytheists that Allah condemned in His Book, then what of adding whistling instruments called mawāsīl to the whistling, and jingling tambourines to the clapping, and making this a spiritual path and a religion through which to draw near to the Majestic Lord?
The truth of the words of ʿAbd Allah ibn Masʿūd, may Allah be pleased with him, has become apparent: “Singing makes hypocrisy grow in the heart just as water makes vegetation grow.”
Indeed, matters have reached the point where these listening sessions bring people together to disbelieve in the Most Merciful, mock the Quran, disparage mosques and prayers, attack people of faith and devotion, belittle the prophets and messengers, urge warfare against the believers, assist unbelievers and hypocrites, and take a created being as a god besides the Lord of all worlds. They even drink the urine of those attending these sessions, counting this among the highest spiritual states of those who know Allah. They raise their voices in abhorrent sounds, worse than grazing beasts—people like those of whom Allah says:
“Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle; rather, they are even further astray.”
[Surah al-Furqān 44]
And the Most High says:
“We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, eyes with which they do not see, and ears with which they do not hear. They are like cattle; rather, they are even further astray. It is they who are heedless.”
[Surah al-Aʿrāf 179]
