She turned away, and I said to her, my heart ablaze:
“Is there any blame on me—woe to you both—if I fall in love?” …

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then said, “There is no blame, if Allah wills.”

I say: This hadith is fabricated, as the scholars of hadith unanimously agree. It has no basis, appears in none of the Islamic hadith collections, and has no chain of transmission. Rather, it is of the same kind as that other hadith which claims that a Bedouin came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and recited:

… The serpent of love has stung my heart;
No physician or reciter of healing charms can cure it,
Except the beloved who has captured my heart,
Who holds my healing charm and antidote.
