Section: The words of Allah Most High:

“Those who dispute concerning Allah’s signs without any authority having come to them—greatly hateful is this in the sight of Allah and those who believe. Thus does Allah seal every heart of an arrogant tyrant.”
[Surah Ghāfir 35]

These follow His words:

“And the man who believed said, ‘O my people, indeed I fear for you a fate like that of the earlier peoples who rejected their messengers.’”
[Surah Ghāfir 30]

The passage continues through His words:

“And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt about what he brought you, until, when he died, you said, ‘Allah will never send a messenger after him.’”
[Surah Ghāfir 34]

And so the verse continues. The believer warns them of punishments like those Allah inflicted in this world upon the disbelieving nations before them, and he also warns them of what will happen on the Day of Resurrection.

This makes clear that he told them of the Day of Resurrection, although he was one of those who believed in Moses. As we have established elsewhere, all the messengers spoke of the Day of Resurrection, contrary to the claims of certain groups of philosophers and speculative theologians that only Muhammad and Jesus spoke of bodily resurrection, and similar claims.

Then the believer said:

“And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt about what he brought you, until, when he died, you said, ‘Allah will never send a messenger after him.’ Thus does Allah lead astray whoever is a transgressor and a doubter.”
[Surah Ghāfir 34]

This is because doubt is a lack of knowledge, and such is the condition of those who are astray.

In the other verse, He said:

“Thus does Allah seal every heart of an arrogant tyrant.”
[Surah Ghāfir 35]

This is because He described their disputing concerning Allah’s signs without any authority having come to them. Such is the condition of those who speak without knowledge, seeking supremacy and corruption.
