As for his statement, “Whatever a place contains is subject to ‘where,’” he uses it to infer that no place contains Him from the premise that “where” does not apply to Him. This inference fails, for the former is more evident than the latter. The general body of Ahl al-Sunnah, the early generations of the Muslim community, and its leading scholars do not categorically deny that “where” applies to Him, since authentic, explicit reports from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, establish its use in both questions and answers.
It is established in the Sahīh that he asked the slave girl, “Where is Allah?” She replied, “In heaven.” He also asked others the same question.
Abū Razīn al-ʿUqaylī asked him, “Where was our Lord before He created the heavens and the earth?” He replied, “In a cloud, with no air above it and no air beneath it. Then He created His Throne upon the water.”
Whoever denies that “where” applies to Him must produce evidence supporting that denial.
