124 – (He said: “Do not rise as non-Arabs do to honor one another.” Narrated by Abū Dāwūd and Ibn Mājah.) p. 100
Weak. It is fully referenced in The Series of Weak Hadiths (no. 346).
125 – (He warned his community against going to excess concerning him after his death, saying: “Do not make my grave a place of recurring celebration.” Narrated by Abū Dāwūd.) p. 100
Authentic. It is from the hadith of Abū Hurayra, who said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Do not turn your homes into graves, and do not make my grave a place of recurring celebration. Send blessings upon me, for your invocations of blessing reach me wherever you may be.”
It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd (2042) and Ahmad (2/367) through ʿAbd Allah ibn Nāfiʿ, who said: Ibn Abī Dhiʾb informed me, from Saʿīd al-Qabrī, from him. This chain could be graded good: its narrators are trustworthy men whose reports Muslim included, except that this Ibn Nāfiʿ—al-Sāʾigh al-Makhzūmī—had some weakness in his memory. This, however, is among his authentic narrations, for it has supporting reports that I cited in Warning to the Worshipper (pp. 98–99).
126 – (He said: “O Allah, do not make my grave an idol that is worshipped.” Narrated by Mālik in al-Muwatta.) p. 100
Authentic. It appears in al-Muwatta (1/185–186), as a disconnected report from ʿAtāʾ ibn Yasār, and its chain is authentic. It has also been transmitted with a connected chain from Abū Hurayra; I cited it in Warning to the Worshipper (pp. 17–18).
