as is shown by Gabriel’s refusal, peace be upon him, to enter the house while it contained a curtain bearing an image, as will be documented under (121). The other hadiths also indicate this, such as the hadith of Aisha that follows.
119 — (He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Among those who will suffer the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection are those who make these images.” In another narration: “Those who imitate Allah’s creation.” Agreed upon.) p. 98
Authentic. It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (4/137–138), Muslim (6/158–159), al-Nasā’ī (2/301), and Ahmad as well (6/36, 85, 86, 199), through several routes from al-Zuhrī, from al-Qāsim ibn Muhammad ibn Abī Bakr al-Siddīq, from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, who said:
“The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came in to me while there was a curtain bearing images in the house. His face changed color; then he took hold of the curtain and tore it down.” She continued: “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said…”
She then cited the hadith using the first wording, which is al-Bukhārī’s. The wording of Muslim and Ahmad is: “Those who imitate Allah’s creation.”
Abd al-Rahmān ibn al-Qāsim likewise narrated it from his father with the following wording:
“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came in to me after I had screened off a recess of mine with a curtain bearing images. When he saw it, he tore it down, and his face changed color. He said: ‘O Aisha, the people who will suffer the severest punishment before Allah on the Day of Resurrection are those who imitate Allah’s creation.’ Aisha said: ‘So we cut it up and made a cushion from it.’”
It was also narrated by al-Bukhārī (4/104–105), Muslim (6/159)—whose wording is quoted here—and likewise by al-Nasā’ī (2/301), and, in abridged form, Ahmad (6/83, 219).
Simāk likewise narrated it from al-Qāsim ibn Muhammad, adding at the end: “in His creation.”
It was narrated by al-Nasā’ī.
