as stated in al-Fath). p. 91
Authentic. It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd (4205), al-Nasā’ī (2/279), al-Tirmidhī (1/325), Ibn Mājah (3622), Ahmad (5/154, 156, 169), and al-Khatīb in al-Tārīkh (8/35), through al-Ajlah, from Abd Allah ibn Burayda, from Abū al-Aswad al-Du’alī, from Abū Dharr, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said—and he cited the hadith. Al-Tirmidhī said: “An acceptable, authentic hadith.”
I say: Its narrators are trustworthy apart from al-Ajlah, concerning whom there is disagreement. However, he was not alone in narrating it: Muammar also narrated it from Saīd al-Jurayrī, from Abd Allah ibn Burayda, with the same chain. It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd (4205), Ibn Hibbān (1475), Ahmad (5/147, 150), and al-Tabarānī in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabīr (1/82). This chain of transmission is authentic.
108 – (Al-Bukhārī narrated concerning this, from Ibn Umar, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: “Differ from the polytheists: let your beards grow and trim your mustaches closely.” p. 92
Authentic. It was also narrated by Muslim and others. It is documented in Hijāb al-Mar’a (94).
109 – (The hadith: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.”

Authentic. It is documented in the preceding source (104).
110 – (Al-Tirmidhī’s hadith concerning trimming the beard in both length and width)
p. 92
Fabricated. It was narrated by al-Tirmidhī and others from Abd Allah ibn Amr, stating that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would trim his beard in both width and length. He said: “A singular hadith.”
