Al-Tirmidhī narrated it (2/134) and said, “It is a good hadith.”
76 - (He said: “What harm would there be in any of you—if he has the means—acquiring two garments for Friday other than his work clothes?” Narrated by Abū Dāwūd). p. 80
Authentic. Abū Dāwūd (1078) narrated it through Yūnus and ‘Amr, who reported that Yahyā ibn Sa‘īd al-Ansārī related to him that Muhammad ibn Yahyā ibn Hibbān related to him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)....
I say: This chain of transmission is authentic, but it is missing the Companion link. Abū Dāwūd, Ibn Mājah (1095), and al-Diyā’ in al-Mukhtārah (1/179/58) narrated it with a connected chain through Ibn Wahb, who said: ‘Amr ibn al-Hārith informed me, from Yazīd ibn Abī Habīb, from Mūsā ibn Sa‘īd, from Muhammad ibn Yahyā ibn Hibbān, from ‘Abd Allāh ibn Salām, who heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say this from the pulpit. I say: This chain of transmission is authentic according to Muslim’s criteria. It also has a corroborating report from ‘Ā’ishah, narrated by Ibn Hibbān (568).
77 - (‘Alī—may Allah honor his countenance—said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took some silk and placed it in his right hand, and took some gold and placed it in his left. He then said, “Both of these are forbidden to the males of my nation.” Narrated by Ahmad, Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasā’ī, Ibn Hibbān, and Ibn Mājah. Ibn Mājah added, “but lawful for its females”). p. 81
Authentic. It was narrated by Ahmad (1/115), Abū Dāwūd (4057), al-Nasā’ī (2/285), Ibn Mājah (3595), and Ibn Hibbān (1465), through Yazīd ibn Abī Habīb, from ‘Abd al-‘Azīz ibn Abī al-Sa‘bah, from Abū Aflah al-Hamdānī, from ‘Abd Allāh ibn Zurayr al-Ghāfiqī, who heard ‘Alī ibn Abī Tālib say it. Abū Dāwūd and Ibn Hibbān did not mention “from ‘Abd al-‘Azīz ibn Abī al-Sa‘bah.”
