“I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering a sermon in Medina. He said:
‘O people, Allah Most High is giving an indication concerning wine, and perhaps He will soon reveal a command concerning it. Whoever possesses any of it should sell it and benefit from it.’
The narrator said: ‘Only a short while passed before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said...’ He then cited the report quoted above.
62 – (And in the hadith: “Whoever keeps grapes during the harvest until he sells them to a Jew—that is, to a Jewish person—or a Christian, or to anyone who makes wine from them—that is, even if he is a Muslim—has knowingly plunged headlong into the Fire.” Narrated by al-Tabarānī in al-Awsat, and al-Hāfiz graded it sound in Bulūgh al-Marām.) p. 72
Very weak. Al-Hāfiz’s grading of it as sound is a mistake, and I do not know what gave rise to it. Indeed, it is an egregious error for someone of his stature. It was narrated by al-Tabarānī in al-Awsat (1/139–140, in Zawā’id al-Mu‘jamayn), and likewise by al-Sahmī in Tārīkh Jurjān (199/390), through Abd al-Karīm ibn Abd al-Karīm, from al-Hasan ibn Muslim, from al-Husayn ibn Wāqid, from Abd Allah ibn Buraydah, from his father, who attributed it to the Prophet with this wording. Al-Tabarānī said: “It is narrated from Buraydah only through this chain.”
I say: It is very weak. Its flaw is al-Hasan ibn Muslim, the merchant from Merv. Al-Dhahabī said:
“He related a fabricated report concerning wine. Abu Hātim said: ‘His hadith indicates mendacity.’ Ibn Hibbān said: Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn al-Junayd informed us; Abd al-Karīm ibn Abd al-Karīm—the original has ‘Abd Allah’—al-Sukkarī narrated to us; al-Hasan ibn Muslim the merchant narrated to us...”
I say: He then related the hadith. Abu al-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzī cited it in al-Tahqīq (3/22) through Ibn Hibbān and then said:
