It also has a corroborating report with the first wording, narrated from Ibn ‘Umar and traced back to the Prophet.
Al-Dāraqutnī narrated it (18) and said: “Its chain of transmission is sound.”
29—(Sawdah, Mother of the Believers, said: “A sheep of ours died, so we tanned its hide—its skin—and continued preparing nabīdh in it—that is, placing dates in it to sweeten the water—until it became a worn-out waterskin, that is, an old waterskin.” Narrated by al-Bukhārī and others.) p. 50
Authentic. It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (4/272), al-Nasā’ī (2/191), al-Bayhaqī (1/17), and Ahmad (6/429), through ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbās, from Sawdah.
30—(The hadith: “Allah has not placed your cure in what He has forbidden you.” Narrated by al-Bukhārī from Ibn Mas‘ūd.) p. 51
It is authentic as a statement of Ibn Mas‘ūd. Al-Bukhārī likewise cited it in suspended form, using a decisive formula of attribution. He said (4/35): “Ibn Mas‘ūd said concerning intoxicating liquor: ‘Allah…’”
Imam Ahmad provided its connected chain in al-Ashriba (fol. 16/1–2), as did al-Tabarānī in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabīr (3/44/2), al-Hākim (4/218), and ‘Alī ibn Harb al-Tā’ī in Hadīth Sufyān ibn ‘Uyaynah (fol. 1/79), through Abū Wā’il, who said:
“One of our men fell ill and was prescribed intoxicating liquor. We went to ‘Abd Allah and asked him, and he replied”—then he quoted the aforementioned statement.
