the Messenger, peace be upon him. He said: “Eat of the provision Allah has brought forth for you, and give us some to eat if you have any with you.” One of them brought him some, and he ate it). p. 49
Authentic. It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (162/3), Muslim (61/6), al-Nasā’ī (201/2–202), and Ahmad (303/3–304, 322–312, 378), through Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir, with similar wording. The compiler appears to have paraphrased it, for I have not found it in this form in any narration through Abū al-Zubayr or anyone else, as will be shown below. I have not seen the phrase “twenty-some” in any source. Rather, this narration as recorded by Muslim and others states: “We remained there for a month…” Another narration, from ‘Amr ibn Dīnār, from Jābir, states: “We ate from it for half a month.” It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (162/3, 9/4), Muslim, al-Nasā’ī, and Ahmad (311/3). In the narration of Wahb ibn Kaysān, from Jābir, it states: “That army ate from it for eighteen nights.” It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (109/2, 244), Muslim, al-Nasā’ī, al-Tirmidhī (77/2), who declared it authentic, Ibn Mājah (4159), Mālik (2/930/24), and Ahmad (306/3).
Perhaps this narration is stronger than the two preceding versions. The first—“a month”—may have been stated by way of rounding up, while the other—“half a month”—omitted the days in excess of half a month. Allah knows best.
24—(Ibn Abī Awfā, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “We went on seven military campaigns with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, during which we ate locusts with him.” Narrated by the major hadith compilers, except Ibn Mājah). p. 49
Authentic. It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (10/4), Muslim (6/70–71), Abū Dāwūd (3812), al-Nasā’ī (202/2), al-Tirmidhī (1/335), as well as al-Dārimī (91/2) and Ahmad (4/353, 357, and 380), from the hadith of ‘Abdullāh ibn Abī Awfā
