say that, though I have given him between ten and a hundred, yet he does not say that. Indeed, one of you…” and the rest of the hadith. He said, “Abū Yalā narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy.”
After citing a similar version of the hadith from Ahmad and Abū Yalā, on the authority of Abū Saīd al-Khudrī, al-Mundhirī said in al-Targhīb (2/8–9): “The narrators in Ahmad’s chain are among those of the authentic collections. In a good narration by Abū Yalā…” He then quoted the portion given in this book.
It is also recorded in Musnad Ahmad (3/4, 16) and by Ibn Hibbān (840), through Abū Bakr ibn Ayyāsh, from al-Amash, from Abū Sālih, from Abū Saīd al-Khudrī, who said that Umar said, “O Messenger of Allah, I heard so-and-so speaking well…” and he related a similar hadith. Ibn Hibbān also narrated from Abū Saīd, from Umar ibn al-Khattāb, that he entered upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then related a similar account.
I say: This is a good chain whose narrators are among al-Bukhārī’s narrators. There is some slight criticism of Abū Bakr, but it does not preclude citing his hadith as evidence. The hadith has another chain, narrated by Ibn Hibbān (848) through Muhammad ibn Abī Yahyā al-Aslamī, from his father, from Abū Saīd al-Khudrī, who then related a similar account. This is a good chain. Abū Yahyā al-Aslamī’s name was Samān.
464 — (The hadith: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wasting wealth.” Narrated by al-Bukhārī.) p. 324
Authentic. It appeared earlier as no. 69.
465 — (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “If any of you has something, let him begin with himself, then with those he supports, and so on and so forth.”) p. 325.
Authentic. Its wording is: “Begin with yourself and spend on yourself. If anything remains, then on your family; if anything remains after your family, then on your relatives; and if anything remains after your relatives, then this way and that”—meaning, “in front of you, to your right, and to your left.”
