Authentic. It is from the hadith of Abū Dharr, may Allah be pleased with him:
“Some of the Prophet’s Companions said to the Prophet ﷺ, ‘O Messenger of Allah, the wealthy have carried off all the rewards. They pray as we pray, fast as we fast, and give charity from their surplus wealth.’ He said, ‘Has Allah not provided you with things you can give in charity? Every utterance of “Glory be to Allah” is charity; every utterance of “Allah is the Greatest” is charity; every utterance of “Praise be to Allah” is charity; and every utterance of “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah” is charity. Enjoining what is right is charity, forbidding what is wrong is charity, and in the sexual relations of each one of you there is charity. . . .’ The remainder is as it appears in the book, except that it reads: ‘What do you think—if he were to satisfy it . . .?’
This is how Muslim (82/3), Abū Dāwūd (5244), and Ahmad (5/167, 168) narrated it through several routes from Wāsil, the freedman of Abū Uyaynah, from Yahyā ibn Aqīl, from Yahyā ibn Yamar, from Abū al-Aswad al-Du'alī, from Abū Dharr. Its attribution to al-Bukhārī is an error!
Abū Dāwūd (5243) and Ahmad (5/178) also narrated a similar version through other routes from Wāsil with the same chain, except that “from Abū al-Aswad al-Du'alī” was not mentioned in its chain (1). It adds at the end: “Two units of the forenoon prayer suffice in place of all of that.”
The chain of this latter version is authentic. The first narration establishes that Abū al-Aswad stood between Yahyā ibn Yamar and Abū Dharr, although Yahyā had in fact heard directly from Abū Dharr. Thus, the first version may be an instance of “an additional transmitter in an otherwise connected chain of transmission.”
There is another route for it in al-Musnad (5/154, 167), from Abū al-Bakhtarī, from Abū Dharr, but it is disconnected.
16—(The hadith: “Whoever lawfully seeks worldly provision in order to preserve himself from begging, provide for his dependents, and show kindness to his neighbor will meet Allah with a face like the full moon.” This is the wording of a hadith
