Ahādīth Manār al-Sabīl” (1), under no. (62), so there is no need to repeat them.
11 - (He—peace be upon him—said: “Do not do as the Jews did and deem lawful what Allah has made inviolable through the flimsiest legal stratagems.” Ibn al-Qayyim cited it in Ighāthat al-Lahfān, vol. 1, p. 348.) He said: Abū Abd Allah ibn Batta narrated it with a good chain of transmission, of the kind that al-Tirmidhī would grade authentic. p. 32.
Weak. Ibn Batta narrated it in Juz’ al-Khul’ wa Ibtāl al-Hiyal (p. 24, from Dafā’in al-Kunūz) with the following chain of transmission: Abū al-Hasan Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Salm narrated to us: al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbāh al-Za’farānī narrated to us: Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Amr narrated to us, from Abū Salama, from Abū Hurayra, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said—and he then cited the hadith.
I say: All the narrators in this chain are trustworthy narrators included in al-Tahdhīb, with the exception of Abū al-Hasan Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Salm, for whom I could find no biographical entry. Ibn Taymiyya also cited it in Ibtāl al-Hiyal (pp. 23–24) in the third volume of al-Fatāwā, from Ibn Batta with this same chain, except that it reads “Ibn Muslim” instead of “Ibn Salm.” He said:
“This is a good chain of transmission. Al-Tirmidhī and others would sometimes grade a chain like it authentic and sometimes grade it good. The aforementioned Muhammad ibn Muhammad (sic) ibn Muslim is well known and trustworthy; al-Khatīb described him as such in his Tārīkh. The remaining narrators in the chain are too well known to require any description.”
I say: I later found that Ibn Taymiyya said elsewhere (3/287):
“Its chain of transmission is good.”
Al-Hāfiz Ibn Kathīr said in his Tafsīr (2/257):
