(peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: “If this is how you conduct yourselves, then do not lease out farmland.” Abū Dāwūd) p. 271
Weak. Abū Dāwūd (3390) and Ibn Mājah (2461) narrated it through al-Walīd ibn Abī al-Walīd, from ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, who reported that Zayd ibn Thābit said:
“May Allah forgive Rāfiʿ ibn Khadīj. By Allah, I know the hadith better than he does. All that happened was that two men from the Ansār who had fought each other came to him, whereupon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘If this is . . .’”
Regarding this al-Walīd, al-Hāfiz said in al-Taqrīb: “Somewhat weak in hadith.”
367 — (Ibn ʿAbbās narrated that “the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not prohibit sharecropping; rather, he instructed people to treat one another with kindness.” Al-Tirmidhī, who graded it authentic.) p. 272
Al-Tirmidhī (1/260) and al-Tabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (3/101/2) narrated it through Sharīk ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Nakhaʿī, the judge, from Shuʿbah, from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from Tāwūs, from Ibn ʿAbbās. Al-Tirmidhī said: “A sound, authentic hadith.” I say: Its narrators are trustworthy and are among the narrators of the two Sahih collections, with the exception of this Sharīk. Al-Hāfiz said: “He was truthful but made many mistakes, and his memory deteriorated after he was appointed judge in Kufa.” It is therefore weak with this wording. However, the preceding hadith (354), which is also narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās, conveys the same meaning. Perhaps it was on account of that hadith that al-Tirmidhī graded this one authentic. Allah knows best.
368 — (When Tāwūs was told, “Abū ʿAbd al-Rahmān, if only you would give up this sharecropping, for people claim that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited it,” he replied: “I assist them and give to them.” Ibn Mājah.) p. 272
Authentic. Al-Bukhārī also narrated it, as stated previously (362).
