Nuskhat Abī Mushir (fol. 2/4), from Muslim ibn Khālid al-Zanjī, from Musʿab ibn Muhammad, from Shurahbīl, a client of the Ansār, from Abū Hurayrah, with the same wording. Al-Hākim said: “Shurahbīl is Ibn Saʿd al-Ansārī. Mālik ibn Anas narrated from him after having held a poor opinion of him, and the hadith is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī responded: “I say: al-Zanjī and Shurahbīl are both weak.” Al-Mundhirī also indicated that it was weak, saying (3/13): “Al-Bayhaqī narrated it. Its chain may possibly qualify as good, though it appears to be a statement of Abū Hurayrah rather than one traced back to the Prophet.”
I found another route for it, narrated by Ibn ʿAdī in al-Kāmil (1/15), through Ibn Lahīʿah al-Misrī: Ishāq ibn Abī Farwah narrated to us, from Abū Sālih, from Abū Hurayrah, with the same wording. However, this chain is extremely feeble. Ibn Lahīʿah is weak, and his teacher is even weaker. The hadith master said: “Abandoned.” I say: It is therefore unfit to serve as corroborating evidence.
344 — (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “When usury and unlawful sexual relations become widespread in a town, its people have brought Allah’s punishment upon themselves.” Narrated by al-Hākim. Abū Yaʿlā narrated a similar report through a good chain.) p. 254
Good. Al-Hākim narrated it (2/37) through ʿAmr ibn Abī Qays, from Simāk ibn Harb, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, traced back to the Prophet. He said:
“Its chain is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī concurred.
I say: However, Simāk’s narrations specifically from ʿIkrimah are inconsistent. Nevertheless, the hadith is good because of the corroborating narration to which the author alluded, namely the hadith of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd. The source references he mentioned were taken from al-Targhīb (3/194), and the same appears in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (4/118). And al-Bayhaqī.
345 — (Hadith: A person’s property is as inviolable as his blood.) p. 255
Good. Abū Nuʿaym narrated it in al-Hilyah (7/334), through Ismāʿīl ibn
