332 — (The authentic hadith states: “Religion is sincere counsel.” Muslim.) p. 249
Authentic. It has been narrated in hadiths from Tamīm al-Dārī, Abū Hurayrah, ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar, and ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbbās:
1 — The hadith of Tamīm. Muslim (1/53), Abū Dāwūd (4944), al-Nasāʾī (2/186), and Ahmad (4/102–103) narrated it, while al-Bukhārī (1/23) cited it in suspended form.
2 — The hadith of Abū Hurayrah. Al-Nasāʾī, al-Tirmidhī (1/350), and Ahmad (2/297) narrated it. Al-Tirmidhī said: “A sound, authentic hadith.” I say: Its chain of transmission is good.
3 — The hadith of ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar. Al-Dārimī (2/311) narrated it with a sound chain of transmission.
4 — The hadith of ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbbās. Ahmad (1/351) narrated it from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, who said: “Someone who heard Ibn ʿAbbās say it informed me,” and he then cited the hadith.
333 — (The other hadith states: “If one of you is asked by his brother for sincere advice, let him advise him sincerely.” Ahmad.) p. 249
Sound. Ahmad (3/418) narrated it: ʿAbd al-Samad narrated to us; my father narrated to us; ʿAtāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib narrated to us, saying: Hakīm ibn Abī Yazīd narrated to me from his father, who said: My father narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Leave people to gain from one another; but if one of you is asked by his brother for sincere advice, let him advise him sincerely.”
Al-Tayālisī (2/1312) and al-Tahāwī (2/202) also narrated it through two other routes from ʿAtāʾ. Abū ʿAwānah differed from them, narrating it from ʿAtāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, from Hakīm ibn Abī Yazīd, from his father, from someone who heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say it; he then cited the hadith. Ahmad (4/259) narrated it.
